Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to pay to go to NSO?
Nope! Attending NSO is completely free.
Do all new students attend NSO?
Yes, all new students are expected to participate in NSO! At NSO you will meet new students just like you, confirm your class schedule, and get a glimpse at what your time will look like as a Monk! You will also have the chance to speak with staff from various offices (such as Residential Living and Dining Services) and handle other logistics like submitting your photo for your Student ID!
If there are extenuating circumstances preventing you to attend NSO, we can schedule a special visit for you with our New Student Orientation Coordinator.
My sister would like to tag along. Is that okay?
You can absolutely bring a sibling to NSO! We would welcome you and your families to join us for all the fun activities we will have going on. Your families are also part of Monk Nation!
Can I bring a friend with me to NSO?
At this time, we are only asking for students and their families to join us at NSO, as we have a particular programming track for students and their families. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet new Monks, just like you!
Do I need to bring bedding to NSO?
Yes, please bring your own pillow, regular twin sized sheets, and a blanket.
Can I stay overnight during NSO if I plan to commute to campus in the fall?
Yes! We welcome the opportunity to help you meet friends and become more familiar with campus.
When can I pick my roommate for the school year?
If you would like to choose a roommate for the academic year, you can do so at NSO! You will be given a form to request a specific roommate. Please note, in order to be paired with a roommate, both you and your desired roommate must request to live with each other.
Is it okay if I do not choose a roommate?
Absolutely! At NSO, students will have the opportunity to fill out a survey from the Residential Living Office about their preferences and interests and this information will be used by their office to make housing and roommate assignments.
Campus Store
It’s time to show the world that you are proud to be a Monk! Be sure to purchase a t-shirt, sweatshirt, sweatpants, mug, bumper sticker - you name it! All bookstore purchases must be made online prior to NSO and can be picked up during NSO from the Alfond Center Store.
